Why is there a Donkey on the Parish Lawn???

If you happen to drive past Our Lady of Peace Church on April 12 or 13 and see a donkey leading a joyful crowd in procession, don’t be alarmed—you’re witnessing a beautiful reenactment of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem!

Each year, Our Lady of Peace Church in New Providence brings a live donkey to lead the Palm Sunday procession, a tradition that brings the Gospel to life in a powerful way. As the crowd carries palm branches and walks together around the Church grounds, we remember how the people of Jerusalem welcomed Jesus with shouts of praise, laying down palms before Him as He entered the city riding on a humble donkey.

The procession takes place before the Saturday 5 PM Mass and the Sunday 10 AM and 12 PM Noon Mass on Palm Sunday weekend. This special tradition is a moving way to enter into the spirit of Holy Week—whether you are participating in the procession or simply witnessing it from the sidelines, Our Lady of Peace Church invites all from the community to come and be a part of this meaningful experience.
