When Good Gets Hard

Every now and then, we get blindsided.

You do the right thing, whether that’s helping someone out, speaking up when it’s easier to stay quiet, or just trying to be a good person, and somehow, it still backfires.

Someone misunderstands.

Things get harder.

You wonder: Why bother?

Plainly stated: sometimes, doing good gets you in trouble.

Sometimes, living with integrity makes people uncomfortable. Your best efforts don’t always get applause, they get your hand slapped.

But the gospel this week is here to tell us that doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong track.

It just means you’re not in control of how the world reacts.

And in fact, none of us are.

There’s also this tendency, especially when the news is chaotic or the internet’s shouting about “the end times, to look for signs, to connect the dots, to try to make sense of things by predicting what’s coming next.

But we’re told not to play that game. The future isn’t a puzzle we’re supposed to solve. It’s not a trick question. We’re just supposed to live today well.

So what does that look like in real life?

It means not panicking when things feel unfair.

It means not assuming the worst when you hit resistance.

It means staying rooted in what you know to be good, even if no one else notices, even if it doesn’t “work.”

This week: Think about one place where you’ve been discouraged or where you’ve tried to do the right thing and it hasn’t gone how you hoped. Don’t overanalyze it. Just keep going. Stay steady.

I’m here to say it matters.
God Bless.
