Our Favorite Christmas Tree Tradition Returns!

During the Christmas season, 250 trees will illuminate the grounds of Our Lady of Peace New Providence! Each tree will be adorned with 1,000 lights and a star inscribed with either the name of a loved one you wish to honor or celebrate, or a special Christmas message of your choosing. We hope you can join us for this beautiful tradition at Our Lady of Peace! We invite you to come, wander the garden, and offer prayers for loved ones, for our parish community, and for all those whose names shine from star to star. Bring a friend or a family member (and maybe some hot chocolate too!) for a festive stroll.

The Heart Behind the Tradition

This garden is much more than names on stars. It’s a walkway of prayer. As families and parishioners stroll through the garden, they read the names on each star. Those names become invitations—to remember, to hold others in prayer, and to reflect on our own loved ones, both past and present.

The Christmas season invites us to celebrate the birth of Christ, and with it, the call to cherish faith, family, and one another. Walking through this garden becomes a small pilgrimage of gratitude, memory, and hope.

What Can I Dedicate a Tree to?

You can choose to dedicate a tree in honor or memory of someone special, or simply to share a short Christmas message with the community. Here are some ideas:

  • A loved one who has passed away
  • Someone living whom you want to celebrate
  • A family or friend you want to bless this Christmas
  • A prayer of thanksgiving to God
  • A general Christmas blessing or well-wishes (local businesses are invited to do this as well!)
