Patron Saint of charitable societies and workers, horses, hospitals and hospital workers, lepers, lost articles, prisoners, spiritual help, and volunteers.

Saint Vincent de Paul, born on April 24, 1581, in Pouy, France, is celebrated for his profound commitment to serving the poor and marginalized. Initially studying for the priesthood, Vincent was ordained in 1600 and soon recognized the need for a more organized approach to charity.

In 1617, he founded the Congregation of the Mission, also known as the Vincentians, dedicated to preaching and serving the poor. His work extended beyond France as he traveled to establish missions and support the needy. Vincent's innovative approach to charity led to the creation of the Daughters of Charity, an order founded with Saint Louise de Marillac, which focused on providing practical assistance to the underserved.
Saint Vincent’s efforts in organizing and mobilizing charitable work earned him the title "The Apostle of Charity." His legacy includes the establishment of numerous charitable organizations and a lasting impact on Catholic social teaching. He is remembered as a model of compassion and service, embodying a life devoted to alleviating suffering and promoting justice.
