Lent and Holy Week at OLP

Join us as we walk the journey of the Cross with Jesus throughout the season of Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, March 5th. Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving as we prepare for the commemoration of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Join us at OLP as we share in prayer and fellowship this season.

Ash Wednesday:

7:00am, 12:10pm, 3:30pm (Prayer Service), or 7:30pm

Soup and Stations:

6:30pm Soup Dinner in the Parish Hall
7:30pm Stations of the Cross in the Church
All are welcome as we share in fellowship and prayer on each of the Fridays during Lent. Come by the Parish Hall for a soup dinner and stay to pray the Stations of the Cross in the Church at 7:30pm. The Stations of the Cross is a series of prayers that is often prayed during Lent that walks through 14 moments during Jesus’ suffering and death, helping us remember His love and sacrifice. It’s a powerful way to pray, especially during Lent!

Stations will be led by the following groups:
March 7th - Religious Education
March 14th - The Academy of Our Lady of Peace
March 21st - OLP Food Pantry
March 28th - Sandwich Ministry / Worship Committee
April 4th - Rosary Altar Society
April 11th - Youth Group

Lent Practices and Reminders:

As a reminder for all Catholics, the days of fasting and abstinence from meat are Ash Wednesday (March 5) and Good Friday (April 18). If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night to honor the suffering and death of Jesus. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, no more than one full meal along with 2 smaller meals should be eaten. We do this as a form of sacrifice in honor of the sacrifice of Jesus. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from eating meat. These apply to Catholics in good health between age 18-59. A different sacrifice or prayerful practice may be made in place of fasting for those who are elderly, in poor health, pregnant, or otherwise have substantive reason to refrain from the practice of fasting.

Fasting: Eating only one primary meal during the course of the day, along with two smaller meals that don't together equal a full meal (basically one full meal and two "snacks")

Abstinence: Refraining from eating meat
