Interrupt Yourself

One of our parishioners shared that after months of trying, her son finally got a job offer. She relayed how excited she was for him because iIt was the kind of job they’d been praying for. It was something steady, with benefits, close to home.

She told me she was brought to tears of joy when she got the call from her son.

Then she made dinner. Answered a few messages. Ran a load of laundry.

By bedtime, she was already thinking about how he’d do and what he might need next. The news was good, but it didn’t get much space.

That moment of relief, the one she’d hoped for came and went. She barely had time to be glad.

That was what struck me: the thing you hoped for shows up, and instead of settling into it, you’re already solving the next part.

In this week’s Gospel, one person comes back after being healed, while the others move on.

There’s something to learn from the one who returned. He let what happened to him change his direction. He paused and responded.

My invitation this week is that when something good reaches you, take five seconds. Thank God. Don’t add to his ‘to-do’ list. Appreciate the win and celebrate.

God bless.
