Funeral Mass

We, the community of Our Lady of Peace, are very sorry for your loss and open our hearts and prayers to you.

We pray that the soul of your loved one may be at peace in the arms of God, and we also pray for you at this very difficult and painful moment.  Please know that we are here to walk with you at this time.

Preparing a Funeral Mass for a loved one is one of the hardest things for one to do, but know this: you don’t have to do it on your own, we are here for you. We want to assist you in preparing for the funeral Mass of your loved one and make this process as easy as possible for you and your family.

Below you’ll find a link that will walk you through the selections of readings, music, prayers and more that are involved in a Funeral Mass.

Feel free to take a look, and if you would like to start making your selections to plan a meaningful liturgy for your loved one, feel free to do so, but only if you would like.  We normally meet with our families, in person or over the phone, and we can walk you through the whole process, answer any questions, and offer suggestions.

Our goal is to help you plan a Mass that not only honors and celebrates the life of your loved one, but helps you at this moment of grief and pain.

Scheduling

To make it easier for the family, the funeral home will reach out to us for you.  But for those ceremonies that funeral homes are not involved, i.e. a Mass with cremains or a memorial Mass, please contact our Rectory Office directly at 908-464-7600.

Readings

There are two readings at every funeral: one reading selected from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament. After the homily, we offer the Prayers of the Faithful. The readings and prayers of the faithful may be read by family or friends, or we at the parish can take care of it if the family wishes.

Participants

You may also choose to involve family and friends in the Mass in special roles during the service, such as: Readers (up to 3), Gift Bearers (2), Pallbearers (up to 8).

The list of songs is available for you to see in the form link below. If you would like to request a specific song that is not on that list, please let us know and we will take a look.
