Feast of St. Matthew the Apostle

Patron Saint of civil servants, accountants, bankers, bookkeepers, customs officers, financial officers, guards, moneychangers, money managers, stockbrokers, and tax collectors.
Saint Matthew was born in Capernaum, a town on the Sea of Galilee. As a tax collector, he was initially an outcast among his fellow Jews, who viewed tax collectors with disdain due to their collaboration with the Roman authorities.

Matthew's life took a transformative turn when Jesus called him to follow Him. Despite the social stigma associated with his profession, Matthew
responded to Jesus' call with immediate obedience. He left his tax booth and became one of Jesus' twelve apostles.

Matthew's encounter with Christ inspired him to write the Gospel according to Matthew, which is the first book of the New Testament. This Gospel is particularly noted for its emphasis on Jesus as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and its detailed teachings on the Kingdom of Heaven.

Saint Matthew’s life is a testament to the power of redemption and the transformative call of Jesus, illustrating that anyone, regardless of their past, can be embraced by God’s grace and become a messenger of His love. Prayer: Saint Matthew, the emptiness in your soul could not be filled with money, and you immediately left all behind to follow Christ. Please pray that I will never hesitate in saying “Yes” to God’s call in my life, so that God can transform my life and use me as He wills. Saint Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist, pray for me. Jesus, I trust in You.
