We wish to share a recent update, as well as a letter from Archbishop Cardinal Tobin, regarding the We Are His Witnesses initiative.

The Archdiocese of Newark has been listening carefully to feedback from parishes about We Are His Witnesses. While some communities have expressed excitement about becoming more missionary, others have shared concerns about possible changes. At the same time, the Archdiocese recognizes the real challenges facing parish life today, including fewer priests, declining participation, and shifting demographics.

In response, Cardinal Tobin and the Core Team have decided to extend the current discernment phase to allow for deeper reflection, dialogue, and consultation. This is not a pause in mission, but an opportunity for more prayerful discernment.

Their goal remains to renew our identity as missionary disciples and strengthen parish life. Any future structural changes will take place gradually and prayerfully, with care for all communities involved.
