The Assumption of Mary is a Holy Day of Obligation for all Catholics. Come celebrate with us and honor our Blessed Mother! Mass will be held at the following times:
- Thursday, August 14th (Vigil) at 7:30 PM
- Friday, August 15th at 7:00 AM and 12:10 PM.
What is the Assumption?
The Assumption refers to the event in which Mary was assumed body and soul into heave, rather than experiencing death at the end of her earthly life. One of the effects of the first sin of Adam and Eve was that our bodies would now be subject to death. Since Mary was preserved by God from original sin because of her role as the Mother of the Savior, the Church believes that the effect of bodily death did not apply to her.
Why do we have a special day to celebrate it?
Mary’s Assumption reminds us that God has ultimate victory over sin and death. Not just for Jesus, who rose on the third day - the Resurrection and victory that God has won is for all of us to share in! Mary received the honor of being taken into heaven body and soul first among humanity, because she never sinned and chose to follow God’s will in every moment of her life. One day, we too will get to share in the resurrection not only of the soul, but that of the body as well. Come join us as we celebrate this wonderful feast day!
